The Ministry of Culture and Sports has published this week the tender for the works contract for the construction of the new headquarters of the Provincial Historical Archive of Castellón for a total of 10,842,447 euros. Once the contract is awarded and with a completion period of 27 months, works could begin before the end of 2020. Its opening is scheduled for 2024.The project, in addition to safeguarding and disseminating Castellón's documentary heritage, aims to promote the definition of the 21st century archive model as a public and social center at a local and global level, active, driving and energizing, to adapt to the new times of society. digitized and networked, and adapt to the contemporary demands of citizens for information, culture and leisure.
The Provincial Historical Archive building will have a useful interior surface area of 5,809.69 m2 and a total constructed area of 7,030.19 m2 distributed on the ground floor, four floors above ground and a technical floor on the roof. The new headquarters of the Castellón Provincial Historical Archive will occupy an existing unused space, built in 1982 by Miguel Prades Country Email List Safont as part of the old Castellón University College.The executive project proposes the comprehensive renovation of the current building, preserving the structure, given the good structural condition of the building, although the structure is reinforced to adapt it to the new archival use that entails a significant increase in loads. The project also includes the demolition of the semi-basement ceiling slab and the construction of a new one at a higher level, so that the ground floor will be enabled at street level with a sufficient height for its new use. The envelope will be renovated with the aim that the new equipment has practically zero energy consumption, as well as the interior finishes, the facilities and the urbanization of the plot.Regarding the distribution of the new headquarters, the archive deposits will occupy the entire four upper floors, while the ground floor will house the public areas (exhibition hall, multipurpose room and consultation rooms), the private area ( administration, manageme organization, conservation, laboratory, etc.), distributed in a way that guarantees safety and conservation, while visitors and workers enjoy an orderly and comfortable space.
